FALKLAND PALACE

Falkland Palace dominates the centre of the attractive Fife village of Falkland, and shows attractive renaissance work. Built as a hunting lodge for the Stuart monarchs in the 16th century, it is said to have been a favorite of Mary, Queen of Scots. In the grounds is a royal, or "real" tennis court, built in 1539 for King James V and still in regular use; it is the oldest of its kind in Britain.
